Deck Builds

Deck builds

Make your outdoor space an oasis – deck designs, builds and extensions

When decks are designed or extended and built right the aim is to create a seamless flow from inside to out. It should look like it was always there, not something that was tacked on later. When it comes to extensions and renovations this may require a match-up of existing materials and features so it all connects together.

Handrails

There are many handrail options available and everyone tends to have a personal preference on the style they like best. It is important to select a style that matches your connecting environment so it looks like it all blends together. While safety is the main factor it is important to style it correctly also.

Our handrails are built to MBA (Master Builders Association) standards and we keep up to date with any changes in these specifications.

Contact us to discuss options.

Timber Bench Seats

Another popular request in recent years is built-in bench seats using the floor decking. We can build a variety of sizes, work in planter boxes or finish off deck edging with back-rest seating instead of handrails. Clients have finished off these spaces with throw cushions or custom made bench seat cushions to add colour and style. Modern, visually stunning and practical.

Deck Building Materials

Hardwood Decking

Hardwood decking is durable and built to last a long time. They wear well in the harsh South East Queensland weather and look great too. It does require maintenance to keep the colour vibrant and maintain the long lifespan – stains and varnishes come in a range of colours and effects. Deck Solutions offers high value maintenance packages to take the stress and effort out of annual maintenance.

Popular options include Merbua, Ironbark, Spottedgum and Blackbutt. These options come in sizes of 65mm, 90mm and 140mm.

Composite Decking

This is a relatively new product and there are a few different suppliers available. Most are a mix of timber particles and recycled plastics. Composite decking is maintenance free, UV, rot and termite resistant. The only aspect to be mindful of is that it can be scratched or marked if not treated with care.

Popular options include EcoDeck, NexGen and Modwood.

Note: We stay away from pine decking purely because it does not last long enough in our harsh QLD conditions. We want clients to get a product that will stand the test of time.

Our Process

Are you considering overhauling your outdoor entertaining area? Looking to build, extend or rejuvenate? We have the solutions you are looking for. Below is an overview of our process. We are 100% dedicated to providing a reliable, efficient and cost effective service at all times.

Step 1 – Discuss your ideas

Our initial phone call will cover what you have in mind. In most cases we will need to arrange an appointment to see the area, take measurements and inspect the space you want to work with. We are always keen to offer ideas and suggestions that you may like to include in your quote breakdown. Many years of experience has resulted in a collection of tips and tricks to get the very most of our your deck creations. You can then decide if you want the extra options or not.

Things to consider when we meet includes:

  • Dimensions (if expanding or building)
  • Materials (hardwood,  composite decking – thin or thick decking boards)
  • Budget
  • Timeframe
  • Extras (concealed decks, hand rails, screens, seats, etc.)

Step 2 – Quote and concept supply

Once we know what you have in mind we can supply a quote. We outline all inclusions so you can easily compare “apples with apples” when looking at other quotes. We suggest all clients get at least two quotes on any build or renovation project so you can be certain you are happy with the final price you pay.

Once you have reviewed the quote we will be in touch to discuss any questions you may have.

Step 3 – Acceptance and Commencement

When a quote is accepted we require a deposit to commence ordering and we issue a start date along with project timeline and estimated completion date.

Please be mindful that weather conditions may alter the project timeline but we will maintain communication at all times so you know what’s happening throughout the project.

Step 4 – Follow-up

A week or two after your project is complete we will give you a follow-up call just to check how it’s all going.

If any concerns or questions arise during or after the project has been completed we are just a phone call away. While we are a growing business, customer service is always our number one priority.

FAQs

How much does a new deck cost to build?

While each project is unique and the style, materials, finish and size all play a vital role in final pricing you can use the rough guide of between $250 – $350 per m2 to give yourself a standard, ballpark figure. The lower end pricing will give you a good finish using quality materials while the higher end pricing includes a more polished finish and higher end materials and timbers. Added extras such as handrails, enclosed decks, raised decks, feature finishes will adjust the price accordingly.

We are happy to supply an obligation free quote. Our pricing is highly competitive and we refuse to use low quality materials that are not built to last. If you want a cheaper solution using these materials we are not the solution for you.

Which areas do we service for Deck Builds?
We provide deck building solutions from South Brisbane and Logan to the Gold Coast.

We are based in the central location of Ormeau on the Northern Gold Coast.

How long does it take to build a deck?
This varies from project to project but most decks tend to fall to 1-4 weeks (based on a 30-80m2 size). Each quote we supply includes a timeline so you can see the process. We are also reliant on Mother Nature being generous and not adding too much water during the project timeline!

Do you have a QBCC licence?
Yes we have a QBCC licence for added peace of mind (see website footer for the number). Each project over $3,300 must be lodged to QBCC and includes insurance for that job. The fees associated with this application and built into our quote costs.

We also have full public liability insurance.

Site safety
At Deck Solutions we practise OH&S on all job sites. We keep a clean workspace, wear safety gear, will include the use of safety fencing where required to restrict access onsite and request clients reduce access while we are mid-project.

We are not qualified electricians, plumbers or council officials and as such work with these trades and governing bodies to ensure work is carried out to code.

What is the standard hire duration of your Pool Void Construction Covers?
We always quote our pool void covers at a 6 month duration as this covers most build timeframes. Some companies quote on a standard 3 month hire duration so make sure you clarify this when getting quotes. Moving to day rates can add up quite quickly once your hire duration ends.

Which areas do you service for Pool Construction Covers?
We cover all areas including Gold Coast, Logan City, Brisbane (North, East, West, South), Ipswich, Tweed Coast and Northern Rivers (NSW). We have also been known to travel up towards the Sunshine Coast to help out clients who needed a far more reasonable hire rate for their void cover needs.

Can you supply a Form 15 with your Temporary Pool Construction Covers?
Yes, we certainly can. Please let us know if your building site supervisor requires a Form 15.

Which builders have you worked with for your Pool Void Construction Covers?
We have had the pleasure of working with Metricon, Plantation Homes, Clarendon Homes, Perry Homes, Chelbrooke Homes, GJ Gardner Homes and many other independent builders.
